SLP Tip of the Month: The Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) Act (S. 2424) is up for reauthorization in the Senate. The bill has passed in the House. Please contact your Senators, so the bill can be passed by the Senate in September, and move on to President Obama for reauthorization.
This legislation directs federal dollars for state grants to fund newborn hearing screenings and intervention programs. The Act has been effective in early detection and intervention for hearing loss. Early intervention is a key factor in speech & language development, which has a major impact on reading skills.
